U.V. Lights

What does a U.V. (ultra violet) light do?

There are many filters and devices used to clean our air. Air Cleaners and even the best air filtering system can remove particulates down to 0.3 microns. Where the filtration stops, UV technology begins. Bio-aerosols such as Microorganisms, Viruses, Mold and Bacteria cannot be filtered out with standard filters. U.V. germicidal lights sterilize a substantial amount of these molds and bacteria.  Volatile Organic Compounds are chemical gases, solvents and odor causing contaminants. U.V. lights, however, are not a substitute for an air filtering system.

Power Consumption

U.V lights require very little power to operate. The light should be on constantly even thought the furnace blower is not operating. Most lights require replacement every 12 to 24 months.

Installation

U.V. lights can be installed in various locations. Your air conditioning coil is moist during the summer creating an excellent enviroment for mold and bacteria to grow. Installing the light above an air conditioning coil will reduce the growth build up on the coil. Installing the U.V. light in the return air will kill mold and bacteria and prevent the contaminants from being redistributed throughout your home.
