FAQs
How do I prevent pipes from freezing?
If you want to prevent your pipes from freezing during seasons with colder temperatures, you must maintain the filter in your furnace. Doing so is usually the best practice. Another prevention tip our technicians and plumbers recommend is keeping all the vents in your home open and free of furniture and clothes. If you keep your vents clear for circulation, you will obtain the best airflow possible, which will keep your pipes from freezing.
What should I do if a pipe bursts?
In the event that a pipe bursts in your home, you should know where the main water valve is in your home. In an emergency, including a burst pipe, getting the water shut off quickly will save you from further water damage. Once you shut off the water valve, contact our plumbers for emergency service. Contact our emergency line at (801) 262-4671. Our 24-hour dispatch center will send out one of our emergency plumbers as soon as possible.
Why is my toilet running?
Another common plumbing issue that homeowners experience is toilet running. A toilet that continually runs or fills is a sign that the flapper does not hold enough water in the tank. Your leaking flapper allows water to run back into the toilet bowl; however, it can stay open without enough water.
Leaving your toilet running is not only annoying, but it can cause your water bill to skyrocket. You can contact our licensed plumbing team at (801) 262-4671 to set up an appointment to fix this plumbing issue as soon as possible.
How do I fix a jammed garbage disposal?
If you have a jammed garbage disposal, our experts recommend calling a licensed plumber. However, if the disposal is not draining, you can use a plunger to help unclog the disposal while waiting for a plumbing service. If the disposal hums or does not start, insert an Allen wrench into the bottom of the disposal and manually turn it to see if it frees up.
How long does a tank-type water heater last?
The average life expectancy of a tank-type water heater is about 10-12 years. You can see if your traditional tank-type is still in working order by assessing the anode rod. This rod protects the interior lining by attracting all corrosive particles to itself through a process called electrolysis.
When the rod corrodes, the tank can no longer do its job correctly. Those corrosive particles will settle at the bottom of the water tank and destroy the lining. Once you notice corrosion building up inside your water tank, you need to start looking for a water heater replacement.
How long does a tankless water heater last?
Tankless water heaters have a life expectancy of about 16-18 years—however, tankless water heaters require more maintenance than a traditional tank-type water heater. Tankless water heaters must receive an annual heat exchanger de-lime. It also needs routine maintenance to meet the average life expectancy. Not keeping up on scheduled maintenance will dramatically reduce the life of a tankless water heater.
